Chapter 20: Sideline Wrap-up

“Captain, we’re receiving a report from Colonel Jones.” The Communications Head informed him, sounding surprised.

“Send a copy to my screen,” Archibald replied, eager to get caught up on all the action, now that his ships had finally reached the planets atmosphere, though it was likely just in time for all the fighting to be over. “Any highlights I should be aware of?”

“He has a priority request for Intel Verification and Orbital Bombardment on two underground bunkers. It’s apparently related to a possible alliance with a local power and finishing the fight on the ground with no further casualties.” Communications answered, sounding perplexed at first, and then shocked at the end.

Archibald didn’t blame him; it was a shocking thing to hear, much less read as an official request. He quickly started reading over the report from Jones, and saw the highlighted section for the request, and the relevant information attached to it. Speed reading through it, he found his eyebrows rising in shock.

“I want this confirmed by whatever Intel groups or feeds we have, now!” He snapped, sending over the relevant information to the Intel group he had acquired and expanded.

“Right away sir!” Intel head replied, quickly going through the Intel networks they had acquired and set about trying to confirm the Intel that they had just received from this Elias Dumont.

If what they had was true, he’d take the deal and happily blast those political monsters to pieces.

If nothing else, it’ll let me take a part in this miniature planetary invasion! Archibald thought in a small corner of his mind. It was embarrassing, but he’d felt totally left out throughout this entire fight, resenting the hell out of the fact that he couldn’t fight alongside his own men, and was all but chomping at the bit to join the action. However, he was the Captain, and he was responsible for everyone on his ship, and in his growing flotilla, and he couldn’t just rush in guns blazing, even if he wanted to.

Being responsible can really suck! He thought with a sigh as he waited for the Intel Report on whether or not the deal was worth taking, while they finally, finally, slid into orbit over the anarchy ravaged planet.

“Captain,” his Intel Chief reported to him via com-link. “Based on our preliminary findings with the intelligence feeds we have on this, and some of them are old, going back a few years, what we got from this Elias Dumont is just the tip of the iceberg. We haven’t confirmed everything he sent over, since there’s a lot of recent stuff that happened after most of the imbedded Intel lines and agents either left or got destroyed in this place. But we have confirmed enough that I would recommend taking the deal and blasting these people as soon as possible. They’re corrupt monsters.”

“Which describes most politicians I imagine, especially these days.” Archibald muttered, thinking about the various politicians, most of them beyond arrogant and wildly out of control with their egos that the MSP had run into over the last few years.
